HAMPTON BAYS, NY — Just in time for Veterans Day, local children were able to learn firsthand about the sacrifices made by the nation's bravest heroes.

Fourth-grade students at Hampton Bays Elementary School paid a visit to American Legion Post 924 recently, as part of their social studies curriculum — and spent time sharing memories and wisdom.

According to the district, veterans shared their very personal experiences in the military and told the kids why it's important to honor those who've risked everything in the past, and who continue to serve, to protect America's freedoms.
