
WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — Westhampton Beach kindergartners in Lynn Marshall’s class learned about American history and the life and culture Native Americans and also enjoyed a Thanksgiving feast, according to a release.
Guest speaker Josephine Smith of the Shinnecock Indian Nation spoke to the kids; students also made Native American vests using their cutting, beading and stitching skills, the district said.
The lesson culminated with a classroom Thanksgiving feast that included local fruits and vegetables, popcorn, cranberry sauce, apple juice, corn bread, and apple and pumpkin pie.

Assisting in the lesson were teachers and aides including Michelle Maines, Taryn Brown, Dara Penn and Jeannine Ryan, the district said.
