Westhampton Beach Elementary Students Raise $30K For School
Principal Jeremy Garritano promised the kids he'd sleep on the roof if they reached a $20,000 goal — and he did.
WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — Westhampton Beach Elementary School Principal Jeremy Garritano made a promise to his young charges: If they raised $20,000 for the school during the annual Hurricane Fun Run, he'd sleep on the roof.
The kids met the challenge handily, raising more than $30,000 at the event Monday — and true to his word, Garritano slept on the roof in a tent Monday night.
As part of the PTA-sponsored event, students gathered pledges to run laps on the high school football field. All of the funds raised will go directly toward cultural and academic enrichment programs at the elementary school, the district said.
