Westhampton Beach Senior In Finals For National Merit Scholarship
He is competing for one of more than 7,500 National Merit Scholarships totaling about $30 million.

WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — A Westhampton Beach High School senior has made his hometown proud: Gavin Ehlers has advanced to the final round of the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program. He was named a semifinalist earlier this year, the district said.
Ehlers was among approximately 16,000 semifinalists nationwide who qualified for the honor based on their high 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship qualifying test scores. He is competing for one of more than 7,500 National Merit Scholarships totaling about $30 million.
Scholarship winners will be announced in spring 2022. More than 1 million juniors complete the testing each year and are automatically entered into the National Merit Scholarship Program.
In addition to his impressive academics, Ehlers competes with his school’s varsity cross-country and track teams, is the assistant coach at Rolling Thunder Track Club and is a member of the National Honor Society, the Westhampton Beach Union Free School District said.
