Westhampton Free Library's Appointed Board of Trustees Spends Millions to Renovate a 6-Year-Old Building
Join fellow taxpayers at the September 14, 2016, Board Meeting at the Library at 7 pm.

Note in the photo (a detail from the Library's 11/18/15 meeting minutes) how more money is being spent on renovations, above the $1.3 million Skovek donation. The building was 6 years old in June. Also note in Item #5 how our taxpayer-funded, non-profit Library is paying a marketing consultant up to $1800/month.

In addition, Richard Zuckerman of Lamb & Barnosky of Melville is the WHB (Village) attorney and the same firm is employed by the Library. Mr. Zuckerman’s daughter of the same firm is retained by the Library for union negotiations. We have elected Village Mayor Maria Moore and appointed Board of Trustees Library President Tom Moore. Too much of tax money consolidated in one household and with one law firm, in my opinion, especially since Tom Moore is in an appointed position dealing with millions of tax dollars. If he was elected that might be a different story.

Also, H2M Architects is working on our Village’s sewer district plan, and the same firm gave a detailed 35.5 minute presentation at the Library’s 8/17/16 regarding the Library’s expansion. We understand that without these sewer credits the Library expansion would not be allowed.
Seven appointed/unelected trustees should not be responsible for millions of tax dollars. And huge capital expenditures should require a community vote. 71% of Long Island association libraries have elected boards, some since the middle of the last century. Appointed isn't American.
