Westhampton Man Appears To Brandish Handgun At Police In Standoff: PD
He was arrested after a several hours'-long standoff in Westhampton Tuesday, police say.
WESTHAMPTON, NY — A Westhampton man was arrested Tuesday after an hours'-long standoff, police said.
According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place at about 11:36 a.m. when patrol officers, as well as New York State Police, responded to a welfare check call for someone in Westhampton.
When police arrived, the man brandished what appeared to be a handgun at the responding officers, authorities said. He ended up actually having a pepper ball gun, police said.

New York State and Southampton Town police crisis negotiators and the Southampton Town Emergency Services Unit responded to the scene, as did Southampton Town Police detectives, a Suffolk County K-9 unit, and the Westhampton Beach Fire Department, police said.
After a several hours' long stand-off, Jacob Bergman, 49, was arrested and charged with fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor, second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor, and second-degree harassment, a violation, p0lice said.

He was transported to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital for medical evaluation and will be arraigned at a later date, police said.
