Woman Charged With Stealing Multiple Credit Cards In Westhampton: PD

The thefts have taken place in Westhampton Beach since April, police say.

WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — A Westhampton Beach woman was arrested and charged after she stole credit cards from individuals at local shops, police said.

According to Westhampton Beach Village Police, Maria Gutierrez-Monterey, 40, was arrested Monday at 1:45 p.m. and charge with multiple counts of fourth-degree grand larceny.

During multiple incidents that have taken place in the village since April, Gutierrez-Monterey would enter a business and use a distraction such as trying on clothing or asking questions and would then take someone's wallet or remove credit cards from pocketbooks; she then used the credit cards at local businesses, police said.

In some cases, people were unaware that their credit cards had been taken until they were contacted by police, authorities said.

She was released on an appearance ticket to appear in court at a later date, police said.
