Woman Trapped In Vehicle After Montauk Highway Rollover Crash: FD

The woman was trapped inside her vehicle and firefighters cut away the roof to get her out, officials say.

WESTHAMPTON, NY — A woman was rescued after being trapped in her car during a rollover crash in Westhampton Wednesday, fire officials said.

According to the Westhampton Beach Fire Department, the two-car crash took place at the intersection of Montauk Highway and Old Country Road just before 8 a.m.

Westhampton Beach Fire Department First Assistant Chief Darryl Schunk and Third Assistant Chief Jeff Wachenfeld were the first department volunteers to arrive, and found a pickup truck and a sedan on the side of Montauk Highway, officials said. The sedan was on its side with a woman trapped inside; firefighters stabilized the sedan and then cut off the roof to get the woman out, officials said.

She was taken by the Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment, fire department officials said.

Westbound Montauk Highway traffic was diverted onto John Way and eastbound traffic was diverted onto Mill Road during the incident, officials said.
