WEST ISLIP, NY — West Islip Union Free School District voters approved the district’s proposed $144,810,058 budget for the 2026-27 school year on Tuesday, along with a capital reserve proposition and Board of Education races.
The budget passed 1,165-313.
The approved spending plan represents a 2.38 percent increase over the current year’s $141,439,000 budget. The approved tax levy totals $98,669,496, a 2.50 percent increase over the current year.
District budget documents show the spending plan includes $106,904,084 for program costs, $20,879,724 for capital costs and $17,026,250 for administrative expenses.
The district projected approximately $36.71 million in state aid, along with $4.5 million from reserves and $850,000 in appropriated fund balance to support the budget.
According to district documents, the program component supports classroom instruction, special education services, co-curricular activities and transportation for students attending in-district and out-of-district schools.
The capital component supports operations and maintenance across the district’s 11 school buildings and more than 145 acres of property, including utilities, custodial services, facility upkeep, debt service and capital projects funded through the annual budget.
Proposition 2
Voters also approved Proposition 2, authorizing the use of capital reserve funds.
The proposition passed 1,205-260.
Board Of Education Election
Voters also elected candidates to two at-large seats on the Board of Education.
Quinn Bedell received 1,149 votes and Anthony Tussie received 1,097 votes, securing the two available seats.
District officials said election results remain unofficial pending certification by the district clerk.
