In July, the Islip Town Board unanimously voted to approve a zoning change for the project so that the 450-acre property purchased by Jerry Wolkoff back in 2002 for a total of $20 million so that construction could begin.
The zone change allows for the construction of 9,000 apartments, 3.2 million square feet of office space as well as 1 million square feet of retail built over the next 32 years.
However, following the vote last month Huntington officials sent a letter expressing concern that the development could cause traffic issues on Commack Road and the Sagtikos Parkway, according to a report in Newsday.
At the last public meeting held in April, hundreds of local residents and business owners spoke out both for and against the project.
