New Details On West Islip House Fire Released

A total of 7 fire departments responded to battle the blaze that injured 3 firefighters Wednesday evening.

WEST ISLIP, NY – Three firefighters were injured while battling a fire at a West Islip home Wednesday evening, police said.

Suffolk County Police responded to the report of a fire at 6:26 p.m. at 1212 Jefferson Avenue. The West Islip Fire Department also responded to the home after receiving a call for a barbecue fire.

Within minutes Captain Jeffrey Kempf Jr. was on scene and reported heavy fire showing from the side of the house.

In addition, the North Babylon, Babylon, Bay Shore, Deer Park, West Babylon, East Islip and Brentwood fire departments all responded to the scene.

It took a total of one hour to get the fire under control. No injuries were reported to the occupants.

The injured firefighters were taken to Good Samaritan Medical Hospital for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The cause of the fire in under investigation by the Town of Islip Fire Marshal and SCPD Arson Squad.
