Heavy Rainfall, Flooding Expected In Town Of Islip

Officials warn residents to prepare for the hazardous weather expected to hit the area this weekend.

ISLIP, NY – Town of Islip officials are warning residents to be prepared for potential flooding due to heavy rains this weekend.

According to officials, melting snow accumulation combined with forecasted heavy rains on Friday and Saturday, may lead to potential flooding.

A flood watch is in effect across the interior of Long Island, with the Town of Islip expected to receive 1.75 to 2 inches of total rain accumulation.

Low-lying areas and roads are most at risk and could further be in danger of icing, as rising waterways may re-freeze overnight.

The Town is warning all residents to stay off all frozen bodies of water (lakes, ponds, etc.), as the warming temperatures and the influx of water may thin and weaken ice surfaces.
