"Chris was an incredible son, husband, brother, and most importantly a loving father to his four beautiful daughters," Gmelch wrote on the page. "Chris was always seen with a smile on his face and was loved by many. He was extremely involved with the West Islip community and always attended sporting events, dance recitals etc. Not only did he support his four daughters who are involved in many different activities but also supported all of the West Islip community members."
Gmelch started the page in order to raise money to help his family. The goal is to raise a total of $10,000. As of Wednesday, the page has raised a total of $1,540.

"With all of the emotional pain and stress during this difficult time I am asking for our community to give back to Chris' family to ease the stress of the expenses they may have now and in the future," she wrote. "I know the McCandless girls will appreciate any support they can get and of course will be thankful for any donation whether it's large or small. I also encourage you to keep the McCandless family and all of Chris' loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
