WI Lions dominate Dalers to win LI Championship

The West Islip Lions are once again Long Island champions and they claimed the title in such a way that left no doubt as to which team is the class of lacrosse on Long Island. West Islip defeated Farmingdale 13-1 on Tuesday night at Hofstra Stadium in the Long Island Class A championship game behind a strong defensive effort that kept Farmingdale off the scoreboard until 6:04 left in the game.

The Lions were led by their All-American attackman Nicky Galasso, who had five goals and two assists. Galasso seems determined to make his senior year one to remember. "It's one game and a time and we can't really get our hopes up. We just have to get down and dirty and get ready to do what we can do," he said.

The Lions were also led by Drew Federico, who had three goals and an assist. Rob Moore had two goals for the Lions.

Although West Islip continued to display its scoring punch, team defense was the story of the game. When shots made it through to the net, goaltender Kyle Turri was there to make the saves. Turri finished with 11 saves without allowing a goal.

West Islip will now take on Lakeland High School from Shrub Oak, New York on Thursday at 8 p.m. at Hofstra as the next step in their quest to repeat as state champions.
