WEST ISLIP, NY — Long Island resident Felicity Mason was excited to attend the premiere of her first movie airing this weekend but now, thanks to the coronavirus, she will now be watching it from home. The West Islip resident recently starred in a Lifetime movie, Stalker's Prey 2, which is set to premiere on Saturday night. Mason was excited for the chance to attend the special premiere at a local establishment in Conneticut alongside her co-stars and everyone else who worked on the movie.

"What's fun about a premiere is that you get to see everyone, it's not everyday you do a movie," she told Patch.

However, when the pandemic first hit, she then planned to have a small movie watching party and dinner at her home. Now, with officials putting stricter restrictions in place and recommending that people practice social distancing, Mason and her co-stars are forced to enjoy the premiere of their movie from the comfort of their homes.

"I don't think that everyone really thought about how serious [the coronavirus] would be, and then all of a sudden it was like 'bam,' everything was shut down," she told Patch. "People were looking forward to getting together and having a party, but now everyone is just doing what they have to do. We're not going to get to see each other, all we can do is email each other congratulations."

Mason's movie, which will air Saturday and Sunday on the Lifetime channel, was shot mostly on the Long Island Sound. While her co-stars came from all over the country, Mason, who lives in West Islip, was relatively close to home. She worked on the movie in June for about a month, and has been waiting since then for the highly-anticipated release. The thriller is the sequel to the first Stalker's Prey, which was released in 2017 and was one of the highest-grossing films for the Lifetime channel.

While Mason was disappointed that she couldn't celebrate the official launch of the movie, she is making the most out of the situation and enjoying time at home with her 4-year-old daughter. Since her daughter is out of school, Mason has been keeping her busy working on homework sent by the teachers, playing board games, cooking and painting.

"My daughter is seeing it as a really fun time, she doesn't ever want to go back to school she thinks this is the best thing ever," she said.

The coronavirus has affected other parts of Mason's life. Since all classes and gatherings for the most part have been canceled or postponed, she has not been able to attend any of her regular acting or art classes she usually takes.

"It's scary and it's affecting everyone, particularly the businesses," she said.

But she is still trying to remain positive. Mason, who is also an artist, has been able to take art classes online, working with a Huntington based artist, William Graf. Graf is currently teaching classes on oil painting via the online video chat service, Zoom.
