Man Charged in Armed Sandwich Shop Robberies
Subway in Bay Shore among the robberies, police say.

A North Babylon man was arrested on Tuesday and charged with robbing three Suffolk County fast food restaurants, twice while armed with a gun, earlier this year.
Michael Burwell, 24, is charged with two counts of first degree robbery, as well as one count each of third degree robbery, second degree escape and resisting arrest, police said.
According to police, on May 26 around 8:30 p.m., Burwell entered Quiznos, located at 1675 Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore, and demanded money from an employee.

On July 24, at about 8:35 p.m., Burwell robbed the Subway restaurant located at 876 Connetquot Avenue in Islip Terrace. About a half an hour later, Burwell is accused of robbing another Subway located at 1714 Veterans Memorial Highway in Islandia. In both of the Subway robberies, Burwell displayed a gun, police said.
After a thorough investigation, detectives from the Third, Fourth, and Seventh precincts, along with Robbery Task Force detectives, identified Burwell as the suspect in the robberies, police said.

Burwell was arrested in front of 409 Wyandanch Avenue in North Babylon on Tuesday around 2:30 p.m. After being taken into custody, Burwell attempted to flee and resisted arrest, police said.
Burwell was being held at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday.
