Man Exposed Himself To West Islip Student: SD
Officials released a letter warning parents of the incident on Monday.
WEST ISLIP, NY - The West Islip School District are warning parents after a man exposed himself to a student on Monday, according to a letter from superintendent Bernadette Burns.
Officials were informed of the incident that occurred recently on Higbie Lane.
The man was reported to be described as white with a dark complexion and driving an older model green pick-up truck.

Suffolk Police were notified and have increased patrols in the area.
In the letter, Burns also provided the following safety tips for parents:

- Never leave young children unattended at bus stops. Neighbors should take turns attending to students during the morning pick-up and afternoon drop-offs.
- Encourage children to walk together to and from school if transportation is unavailable.
- Remind children to never talk to or be lured by strangers, whether in a vehicle or on foot.
- Children should be instructed to be cautious of seemingly harmless propositions made by strangers in order to attract their attention.
- Encourage children to be mindful of their surroundings at all times, especially when they are alone.
- Observe and make note of any suspicious or unknown vehicles or individuals seen in the community.
- Inform police immediately if suspicious individuals or vehicles are seen in the community, especially prior to and after school hours.
- Encourage children to inform trusted adults of any situation or incident that makes them feel uncomfortable.
- Always think and react in a manner that promotes safety in the school community.
