Marathon Runner Named Patch Athlete of the Week

Mother of three ran for the seventh time in the NYC race.

West Islip native Karen Greco, who also happens to be the mother of the three, yesterday morning after taking a 20-month hiatus due to knee surgery.

Her time of 3:12:30 was incredible.  It was good enough to rank 26th in her age range (38), 146th in her gender range and 1,917th overall.

Although Greco, a Greenlawn resident, told Pam Robinson of Patch that she'd be "very, very happy" with a sub 3:05 time, she can't be disappointed with a sub-3:15 time, especially since she beat out over 43,000 other registered marathon runners.

Greco took up running when she was a student at St. Bonaventure University as a way of staying in shape. She ran her first New York City marathon in a time of 4:02 and told Robinson that post-race, her husband George will "fill the bathtub with ice and when I get out, I'll feel like a brand-new person."
