The kayaker had become stranded on a construction barge in the Great South Bay in West Islip on Tuesday evening
WEST ISLIP, NY — Suffolk Police rescued a kayaker who was stranded on a construction barge in the Great South Bay in West Islip on Tuesday evening. Marine Bureau officers Kevin Yoli and John Falcone responded on Marine Juliet after a driver on the Robert Moses Causeway reported to 911 seeing a distress flare over the water at 5:10 p.m.
Upon arrival, the officers saw the 40-year-old Syosset woman, who had been kayaking when the water became too rough, standing on a construction barge that was tethered to the causeway bridge.
The officers helped the woman aboard Marine Juliet and brought her and the kayak to Captree Marina in Babylon. She was uninjured.
