Officers Rescue Suicidal Teen Who Jumped Off Robert Moses Bridge

The 18-year-old was rescued after jumping into the water from the Robert Moses Causeway early Sunday.

WEST ISLIP, NY - Suffolk County Police rescued a suicidal teen who jumped from the bridge portion of the Robert Moses Causeway Sunday morning.

Marine Bureau officers responded to a report of an 18-year-old woman who jumped into the water from the west side of the bridge portion of the Robert Moses Causeway at 4 a.m.

Officer Joseph Riviello drove the boat underneath the bridge and officers used a spotlight to find the teen, who was holding onto a pylon in the water.

Officers John Sheehan and William Houst were able to pull her safely into the boat and bring her back to shore.

The woman was transported by West Islip rescue to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for evaluation.
