Police: Driver Was Drunk in N. Lindenhurst Crash That Seriously Injures Ridge Woman

Crash occurred on Sunrise Highway Monday afternoon, police say.

A Ridge woman was seriously injured in a two-car crash in North Lindenhurst Monday afternoon and the driver of the other vehicle now faces a DWI charge, police said.

According to police, Gaby Yanez, 53, was driving a 1999 Dodge Caravan west on Sunrise Highway at about 4:15 p.m. when her vehicle was struck by a 1996 Honda Civic that was heading east near Buffalo Avenue.

The crash caused the Caravan to overturn, police said. The driver of the Civic, Andres Batista-Tejeda, 48, of Copiague, appeared to be making a left turn from Sunrise onto Buffalo when the collision occurred, police said.

Yanez was transported by North Lindenhurst Fire Department Rescue to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where she was treated for fractures to her right leg, police said. Batista-Tejeda was also transported to Good Sam, where he was treated for a punctured lung, police said.

Batista-Tejeda was arrested and charged with DWI. He will be arraigned at a later date. The investigation is continuing and both vehicles were impounded for safety checks, police said.
