Police: Homeless Man Stole Money From Starbucks Tip Jar in West Babylon

A homeless man who stole $14 from a tip jar at a West Babylon Starbucks Thursday was arrested soon after the theft, police said.

Robert Pearlman, 39, is charged with petty larceny.

According to police, Pearlman entered the Starbucks located at 519 Montauk Highway and stole $14 from a tip jar before fleeing on foot eastbound on Montauk Highway at about 10:10 a.m.

An employee ran out of the store and flagged down First Precinct Police Officer Matthew Augustine who was driving by. The employee provided a description of the suspect and Augustine located Pearlman a short distance away, police said.

The stolen money was recovered and Pearlman will be arraigned at a later date, police said.
