Police Investigating Similarities Between LI Robbery, NJ Murder

Both robberies were reported last week. No arrests have been made in connection to either incident.

WEST BABYLON, NY - Suffolk Police are investigating the similarities between a West Babylon robbery and a robbery in New Jersey that resulted in the death of a gas station clerk earlier this month.

Last Wednesday at about 8:56 p.m., a man entered 7-Eleven on 140 Little East Neck Road displayed a gun and demanded cash.

The clerk complied and the robber fled with cash.

In Edison, New Jersey, 38-year-old John Bertram, from Fords, was fatally shot around 4 a.m. last Thursday while working at the Speedway Gas Station on Amboy Avenue, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey told Patch. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement, Suffolk Police said they have "been in contact" with law enforcement partners in New Jersey.

"Our agencies are aware of the similarities in the armed robberies and we will continue to share intelligence," the statement read.

No arrests have been made for either incident.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the robbery to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
