Resident Starts Neighborhood Book Share In West Islip
After the libraries closed down due to the coronavirus, one local resident found a way to keep his neighbors reading.

WEST ISLIP, NY — A local resident recently started a neighborhood book share in West Islip to bring joy to some of the community members after all the libraries closed down. Steven has been working on his "mini library" on Babylon Avenue for a while, but it decided to officially open it to the community last week after the libraries shut down due to the coronavirus.
The "library" has been stocked with books from Steven's personal collection, ranging from Shakespeare to Dr. Seuss. Some people have already begun leaving books at the little library and others have made plans to donate more.
"I was inspired to start this a while ago because it is such a cute idea for the neighborhood and I always stop at other ones I see around Long Island," Steven told Patch. "Plus my wife is always begging me to donate them. I was an English major so I have a lot of books laying around."
