WATCH: Firefighters Battle West Islip House Fire
Most firefighters were marching at the Suffolk County Fireman's Parade in Copiague at the time of the fire.
WEST ISLIP, NY - Firefighters battled a massive house fire in West Islip on Saturday afternoon.
The blaze was reported at a Leopold Avenue home at 5:24 p.m.
Members from the West Islip Fire Department as well as the Babylon and Bay Shore Fire Department responded.

The fire took about an hour to be put out because most West Islip firefighters were marching at the Suffolk County Fireman’s Parade in Copiague at the time, Newsday reports.

Responding firefighters found two of the residents already outside, according to Newsday. No injuries were reported.
It is unknown what caused the fire but during the incident, a propane tank in the home exploded, West Islip Fire Department Chief Robert Bilella told Newsday.
However, the home was completely destroyed in the blaze.
