West Islip BOE To Hold Forum To Hire New Superintendent

The West Islip Board of Education will hold a forum on April 4 to obtain community input before hiring a new superintendent.

WEST ISLIP, NY — The West Islip community is moving forward in hiring a new superintendent.

The West Islip Board of Education announced on Wednesday that it will hold a community forum on Monday April 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Beach Street Middle School cafeteria, to obtain input and feedback in the hiring of the next superintendent of schools.

The event will also be streamed on Zoom.

The board will take the community's opinions to create a specific profile, when interviewing candidates. According to a press release, the board is working with District Wise
Search Consultants, a third party hiring company, who will lead the forum.

For those unable to attend the meeting, or for those who prefer to provide their suggestions and opinions privately, a confidential email address has been established by the consultants: wisupsearch@districtwisesearch.com.

All information gathered will be included anonymously in a report that will be prepared for the board of education, the release said.

Emails received by April 13 will be included in the consultant’s report.

Superintendent Bernadette Burns announced her retirement last month, which will become effective August 15. She has served as superintendent since 2013.
