Kings Park/Commack coach Mark Rysdyk took note of a new line combination that was creating a bunch of scoring opportunities in . But it wasn't his top unit that got him so excited.
"I was very happy with Dillon Tamer, Brett Kaiser and Brandon Amon," he said last week. "They worked well together. Those guys shined with the whole switching of the lines."
The KPC (10-2-0-1) coach was clearly on to something. In their second game together, the trio put up 11 points en route to a 10-0 drubbing of West Islip (1-14-1-0).

"That line's starting to play well and I like that," Rysdyk said. "They pass well, all three of them are good playmakers and they play real well.
Amon netted his first hat trick of the season, while Tamer and Kaiser chipped in with four points each. The line found each other with relative ease inside the offensive zone throughout the game, often leaving opposing goaltender David Colarossi helplessly out of position.

"We've been working on that, too," said Rysdyk. "In games like this we try to work on all our stuff to better our game. It's tough to harness them, because they see 'Oh wow, maybe we can pop some goals in,' well let's hold up, let's all of us get some points, play together as a team and it'll all work out."
Amon beat Colarossi for the first two goals of the game, but was unable to break through until 13:57 of the first period. The Lions, like they have so many times before, hung tough with one of the better teams in the Suffolk County High School League through a period, but were unable to put together a solid 45-minute effort.
"We had them off their game for a period, but we forgot to do what makes us successful," said West Islip coach George Ober. "Then they took control of the game."
Colarossi made 36 saves on a night when he may as well have been out there by himself.
"It easily could've been 15-20 goals," said Ober. "He made some big saves. But if your team is not scoring, or even getting shots on, it doesn't matter if it's 1-0 or 9-0."
Kings Park buried the Lions in the second period, scoring six times in a ten minute span. Captain Kyle Twining notched two goals and an assist, while linemate and leading scorer Matt Goldberg had one each.
"Our team is a dump and chase team," Ober said. "They're not going to skate with a team like this. When we don't get the puck in deep and take the body, we're in trouble. Today, we reverted back to some bad habits."
Mike Fazio earned his first shutout of the season after sitting out the previous two games. Though he wasn't tested too often, he stood tall, stopping all seven shots he faced.
With the win, Kings Park jumps back over Middle Country and Connetquot/Sayville into second place, three points behind Long Beach.
"Our goal is to be number one," said Rysdyk. "We're going to do everything we can to try and get there. But along with that, we're going to have some fun too. If we're not having fun and we're in first place, we haven't done anything."
