West Islip Man Injured While Trying to Set Fire to Tree Stump

The man suffered burns on his legs, arms and hands on Wednesday afternoon.

WEST ISLIP, NY - A 55-year-old man was hospitalized after suffering from burns while trying to set fire to a tree stump in West Islip on Wednesday afternoon, according to Suffolk Police.

The man was in his backyard on Higbie Lane when he tried to burn the tree stump around 4:15 p.m.

The flames shot back at him and the man suffered burns on his legs, arms and hands, police said.

He was transported via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
