West Islip's Anderson Nets First NHL Point

West Islip native Matt Anderson earned his first National Hockey League point on Thursday night.

The 30-year old New Jersey Devils right winger had an assist on a second period goal, but his team went on to lose the game in overtime to the New York Islanders.

Anderson has played in two games for New Jersey since getting called up from the minor leagues earlier this month.

Anderson joins Mike Komisarek of the Toronto Maple Leafs as the two West Islip natives currently playing in the NHL. Komisarek was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft.

Anderson's long road to the NHL received national recognition from hockey writers, including Mike Brehm of USA Today, who spoke to Anderson and his mother.
