West Islip Senior Center Dedicates Art Room To Late Resident

WEST ISLIP, NY — The legacy of a beloved West Islip resident will be forever honored through works of art.

Joseph DiMola, a member of the Higbie Lane Senior Center in West Islip who passed in November 2020 at the age of 93, was recently honored by Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter in a plaque dedication ceremony.

Surrounded by artwork, Supervisor Angie Carpenter, family members, and Higbie Lane Senior Center members honored DiMola's life and legacy.

Before his passing, DiMola and his wife, Rose, attended the Higbie Lane Senior Center every day for more than 15 years, and were both active members in the Deer Lake Senior Club, a press release said.

He voluntarily directed and organized the Higbie Art Studio, keeping inventory of supplies and providing art instruction to his peers.

"Full of wisdom and advice, Joe was eager to teach life lessons, and loved to share stories about his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with everyone he met," the release said.

Also in attendance were DiMola's family, Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs Deputy Commissioner Carol Charchalis, members of Town of Islip Senior Citizen Services, and members of the Higbie Lane Senior Center.

“Joe was an open, caring and extraordinary individual, who believed that no matter your age or experience, you could always learn something new,” said Supervisor Carpenter. “We were truly blessed to have Joseph DiMola as part of our West Islip Center family, and we are proud to dedicate this plaque and the Higbie Lane Art Studio in his name.”
