West Islip Students Explore Dozens Of Careers During Bellew Career Week

Students met professionals from law, healthcare, aviation, and more during the school's annual Career Week.

WEST ISLIP, NY — Students at Paul J. Bellew Elementary School explored a wide range of future career possibilities during the West Islip Union Free School District’s annual Career Week, held in mid-March.

Throughout the week, community members visited classrooms to share insights into their professions, offering students a firsthand look at what different careers entail and how to pursue them.

Students learned about a variety of fields, including nursing, aviation, law, public safety and healthcare. Guest speakers included a nurse, pilot, judge, lawyer, pastor, veterinary technician, police officer, FDNY EMT, orthopedic physician assistant, speech therapist, acupuncturist, construction manager, finance professional, human resources specialist and a high school physics teacher.

Additional presentations introduced students to careers in business development for sports and entertainment, advertising sales, theater production and music, automotive service management, sanitation fleet management, and sales and fitness management. Other sessions highlighted opportunities in education, baking, agriculture, and public service.

The event allowed students to ask questions, hear personal stories, and better understand the education, skills, and experiences required for different career paths, school officials said.

By connecting classroom learning to real-world applications, Career Week helped students begin thinking about their futures while reinforcing the importance of curiosity, hard work, and exploration.
