West Islip Twins Each Receive $300K U.S. Army Scholarship

WEST ISLIP, NY — Two West Islip twins are sharing more in common than their DNA.

Courtney and Christopher Skahill, seniors at West Islip High School, were two of six students on Long Island who received full scholarships from the U.S. Army at a surprise ceremony held at the Suffolk County H. Lee Dennison building on Wednesday.

The siblings were awarded more than $300,000 each to continue their education at St. John’s University next fall, a release said. The scholarships were awarded by the Minuteman Reserve Officer’s Training Corps., which offers guaranteed Reserves Forces Duty scholarships to cover full tuition and fees.

The six Long Island students received $1.5 million in scholarships. The Skahill twins were joined by family members and West Islip School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Romanelli and West Islip Board of Education trustee Debbie Brown.
