Wrestling
The West Islip varsity wrestling team moved to 4-1 in League III play with a 46-23 victory over Smithtown West Friday.
Tyler Walsh continued to dominate at 112 with a win over West's Joseph Giaimis while Will Graham, Joe Byrne, Matt Sullivan Nick Morrilo, Brendan Smith and Dylan Colquhoun all racked up pins in the victory.

The Lions look to continue their solid season when they travel to Smithtown East on Friday, Jan. 28. Smithtown East currently sits at 6-0 atop League III.

The Lions split two league games this past week while finally earning their first league victory.
On Tuesday, Jan. 18, Rainy Hodgson scored 18 points in a 53-42 win over Bay Shore. Megan Ogrodnik and Chelsea Weir each added 10 in the win.
On Friday the Lions faced a tough test against first place Northport (7-0) and couldn't stop a total team effort from Northport in a 74-45 loss.
In the game, 14 different players scored for Northport while Jennifer Clark and Stephanie Leon led the team with 10 points each. Ogrodnik led the Lions with 15 points while Kayla Hunter added 13 as the Lions fell to 1-6 in the league.
Boys Basketball
The Lions remained in the playoff hunt with a 1-1 week to keep their record at 3-4 in League II play.
On Tuesday Jan. 18, a late comeback by the Lions wasn't enough in a 50-40 loss to Bay Shore.
West Islip found itself down 40-18 before outscoring Bay Shore 22-10 in the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late for the Lions. Kyle Turri led the Lions with 15 points, James Tucci added 12 and Chris Anderson scored 11 in the loss.
Team 1 2 3 4 F Bay Shore 13 12 15 10 50 Lions 4 8 6 22 40Sitting at 2-4 after the loss, the Lions needed a win to stay alive in the playoff hunt Thursday against Northport and a Tucci three-point with just over three minutes left sealed the lead for good in a tight 45-43 win.
The game was a tale of two halves as the team's combined for just 22 points in the first half before putting up 66 points in the second. Anderson and Tucci each scored 15 points while Turri scored seven points and added 10 boards.
The Lions beat Nortport Monday, and have games Wednesday and Saturday this week.

The Lions now stand at 8-5 overall after defeating Bay Shore 3-0 on Tuesday and losing to West Babylon 2-1 Thursday.
In Tuesday's win over Bay Shore, Chris Dillman was over 200 in all three games in a 642 series. Chris Cappellini added a 583 in the Lions' win.
On Thursday, the Lions bowled an ever better game, their best game of the season with a 3,088 overall, but were bested 2-1 by a tough West Babylon team.
Cappellini bowled a 630,Dillman bowled his best game of the season with a 689 and Sean Kelso added a 639 series. Unfortunately for the Lions, Shane Salanitiri bowled a 655 series and James Pfeifer bowled a 254 in Game 3 to seal the victory for West Babylon.
