W.I. Outstanding Athletes Praised by BOE
Varsity athletes were recognized for achievement on and off the field.

West Islip School District's outstanding athletes were honored by the during a regularly scheduled public session at the high school on January 13th.
Praised for their accomplishments were Paula Pecorella and Jessica Lutrario, girls varsity gymnastics All-County, and Kailey Lyons, identified as the Suffolk County Coaches Association Scholar Athlete; Brooke Kerrigan, Marissa Segreto and Samantha Whitney, girls varsity soccer All-County; Sean Sepe and Cameron Eiseman, boys varsity soccer All-County; Ali Foote and Jess Ball, girls varsity cross country All-County; Brian Schilling, boys varsity volleyball All-County; Marisa Ejups, girls varsity volleyball All-County and Erin Byrnes, Marisa Ejups and Erin McGloin, girls varsity volleyball All-County All-Tournament; Brianna Frame, Erin Collins and Samantha Sienkiewicz, girls varsity tennis All-County; Andie Cuiffo, Rachel Morgano, Julia English and Bridget Whalen, girls varsity swimming All-County; and Drew Federico, varsity football All-County.
Also honored was girls varsity tennis coach Kevin Lewis, a physical education teacher at who has received Coach of the Year honors numerous times throughout his coaching career.

Introducing the athletes in attendance at the Board meeting was Director of Health, Physical Education, Athletics & Recreation Tim Horan.
"This past fall was another successful season for West Islip athletics," he told the audience. "We had just under 1,000 student athletes participate on 40 teams in the fall and we were crowned League Champions in boys soccer, girls soccer, and girls tennis."

He continued: "Just about every varsity team advanced to the playoffs and many of our individual sport performers qualified for the post season. Additionally, nine of the 12 varsity teams maintained academic averages of 90 or higher and were recognized by New York State as Scholar-Athlete Teams."
