Cougars go 4-0, Lions 2-3 in busy sports day for both schools

Boys Basketball

The Lions (1-3) broke a three-game losing streak as Kyle Turri put up 13 points and eight rebounds. Chris Anderson and Brian Monaghan added 11 points each in a 46-41 win over Connetquot (1-2).

Girls Basketball

Connetquot was able to get the better of the girls as the Lady Lions dropped to 0-4 in League II play with a 49-32 loss. Briana Frame led the Lions with 12 points in the loss as only five players scored.

Wrestling

Travis Isgro won by pin at 96 pounds but Tyler Walsh, the defending League III champion at 112 pounds, was upset by Newfield's Brandon Aviles in a crucial match in what turned out to be a very tight 36-30 loss for the Lions.

Boys Bowling

The Lions (8-2) won their third straight game by a score of 3-0, this time over North Babylon Tuesday evening. Chris Cappellini bowled a 609 series and Darrin Schmitt added 616 series to lead West Islip to victory.

The Cougars had their way with Our Lady of Mercy Tuesday in a 63-37 victory. The Cougars improved to 4-1 in the conference thanks to Anastasia Williams' impressive double-double with 17 points and 17 boards. Kamala Thompson had a double-double of her own with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Dante Thompson-Smallwood led the Cougars to a win in their first league game of the season with 21 points and 18 rebounds. Will Fortune had 20 points of his own in a 65-59 win over Kellenberg (1-2).

Boys Bowling

Cyle Yambo was the difference maker with a 257 in a Game 2 the Cougars won by just eight pins. Yambo had a 602 series.

Caroline Herrera's 235 in a decisive Game 3 clinched the Cougars' sixth win of the season.
