Winter Olympian Visits West Islip Elementary School

WEST ISLIP, NY — The Olympics have come to West Islip.

Fourth graders at Oquenock Elementary School were visited by Olympian Aidan Mueller on Thursday.

Mueller is a former Oquenock student who is currently a member of Team USA Junior Olympics for luge. He spoke to the students about his passion for the luge, how he became interested and what it takes to be a prospective Olympian. Mueller brought in some of his equipment and his awards to share with the students.

He also explained that in addition to having a healthy lifestyle, he has surrounded himself with positive people in his life and how that helps him every day.

“All you need is patience and perseverance to succeed in whatever you want to do in
life,” he told students.

Mueller also told students that although he has won some medals in his career, the losses far outweigh the wins and those losses make you better. He plans to continue his journey to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.
