80-Year-Old ID'd, Intentionally Struck In West Islip Hit-And-Run: Cops

The driver intentionally struck the woman, police say.

WEST ISLIP, NY — An 80-year-old woman who was killed in a West Islip hit-and-run was intentionally hit on Sunday night, Suffolk County Police said.

Helga McNulty, of Babylon, was a passenger in a Subaru, traveling northbound on Tanglewood Road at about 9:25 p.m. The man driving the Subaru was known to her, police said.

When McNulty exited the vehicle near the intersection of Ryan Street, the driver made a U-turn and struck her with the car, police said. He continued driving southbound on Tanglewood Road.

McNulty was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Detectives found the vehicle and believe they know the identity of the male driver, who was known to the victim.
