10,000 Books To Be Given Away For Free to White Plains City School District Students

WHITE PLAINS PTA COUNCIL TO GIVE AWAY THOUSANDS OF BOOKS AT 4th ANNUAL FREE BOOK CELEBRATION

The White Plains PTA Council is hosting its 4th Annual Free Book Celebration. The free event, which will celebrate reading literacy, is scheduled for Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 10 AM to 12PM at Eastview Middle School in White Plains. An estimated 10,000 books, appropriate for grades K-12, will be distributed at the Free Book Celebration. Another 2,000 books will be distributed at White Plains High School on May 6.

“Last year at the celebration, we had over1,000 people show up, and 10,000 books were all gone in an hour and a half. That’s 111 books a minute,” said Caroline Furry, the main organizer for the event. Although books are the main draw, families can also enjoy food and entertainment

“Promoting literacy and developing motivated and excellent readers is certainly a priority for the White Plains Public Schools,” said Paul Fried, Superintendent of Schools.  “I want to thank Caroline Furry, all our PTA leaders and members, and the sponsors for their hard work and for hosting this wonderful event, and I encourage all of our students to attend.”

Supporters for this year’s Free Book Celebration include Stop and Shop, the Princeton Review, and Hatchette Book Group.
