Update: 2-Year-Old Girl Identified in Fatal White Plains House Fire
The blaze occurred Saturday morning on Nutgrove Street.

Updated at 8:31 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015: Two-year-old Lalayjah Pearson has been identified as the girl who died Saturday in a house fire on Nutgrove Street in White Plains.
Lalayjah’s grandfather, Charles Young, 79, remains in White Plains Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit, reports The Journal News. His condition, according to authorities, is considered “very grave.”
Also suffering injuries were Doris Young, 77, Lalayjah’s grandmother, and White Plains Police Sgt. Daniel McMahon. Both suffered excessive smoke inhalation; McMahon rescued Doris Young by carrying her out of the house.

Original story: A 2-year-old girl died in a house fire Saturday on Nutgrove Street in White Plains, and her grandfather who also was in house at the time is in White Plains Hospital in critical condition.
Kempter’s Fire Wire reports the fatal blaze was called in about about 11 a.m. The child’s grandmother also was in the home at the time and was pulled out by a White Plains police sergeant, who suffered minor injuries.

“This is a terrible tragedy,” White Plains Public Safety Commissioner David Chong told The Journal News. “Our hearts go out to the family. We tried our best; the actions of our first responders were absolutely heroic.”
Other family members were also pulled from the fire, and a total of eight people lived in the two-family home. The identities of the victims and the police sergeant were not immediately released.
