5 Firefighters Injured In 4 A.M. White Plains House Fire

A stairway to the basement collapses causing the injuries.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — A White Plains family escaped from a 4 a.m. fire that significantly destroyed their two-story house Wednesday. Five firefighters were injured when a staircase to the basement collapsed.

An upgraded fire alarm system in the house alerted a dispatcher, fire officials told the Journal News.

The injured firefighters were treated for various injuries at White Plains Hospital.
