Afterschool Debate Academy

A class for middle-school aged young adults to improve their public speaking and debate skills

The Westchester Community College Center for the Arts will be offering a Debate Academy in the Fall! Intended for grades 5 - 8.
This class is designed to teach middle school students the fundamentals of public speaking and argumentation skills that will enable them to develop confidence, self-esteem, critical thinking skills, creativity, and leadership. Participants will have a chance to improve their communication skills in a safe and secure environment. The Afterschool Debate Academy aims to equip young adults with the abilities to structure arguments, prepare debate cases, research evidence, write rebuttal briefs, deliver speeches, and refute opponents. It will prepare them to join High School debate teams, Model United Nations teams, or speech teams.

10 Weeks, September 27 - November 29
Tuesdays, 4:30pm - 6:30pm
Fee: $600 + $8.25 registration fee
