Alzheimer's Association offers social, educational programs
Social and educational activities offered for caregivers and people with dementia

The Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter will host the following social and educational programs in Westchester County in the weeks ahead:
“Know the 10 Signs” will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Old Guard of Westchester, 7 Saxon Woods Road, White Plains. This program identifies the 10 major signs of Alzheimer’s, how to recognize them and why early detection is important. With questions or to RSVP, call the Alzheimer’s Association at 800.272.3900.
“Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body” will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Concordia College in the Pietruski Auditorium, 171 White Plains Road, Bronxville. Learn about information on diet, nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement. Get hands-on tools to develop a plan for healthy aging. The AlzWell Social Club will be held on Nov. 2, 24 and 30 in White Plains. This program includes creative activities for people in the early and middle stages of dementia and their family caregivers. Activities will include creative writing, trivia games, singing and dancing to live music, ice-cream socials, clay art making, choral groups and sing-alongs, guest speakers, discussions of current events and books, light yoga, dance instruction, art projects and conversations as well as stress-relief exercises. Preregistration and pre-screening are required to participate. “Understanding Alzheimer's and Dementia” will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at The Field Library on 4 Nelson Ave., Peekskill. Learn about the impact of Alzheimer’s, the difference between dementia and Alzheimer’s, disease stages and risk factors, current research and treatments as well as Alzheimer’s Association resources. A Memory Café will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, at Sam's of Gedney Way, 50 Gedney Way, White Plains (in the Oak Room on the lower level). This program offers a free opportunity for people with early-stage dementia and their family caregivers to socialize, eat and enjoy live music in an understanding environment. Preregistration is required. Call the Alzheimer’s Association at 800.272.3900 for prescreening and registration.
“Living with Alzheimer’s: For People with Alzheimer’s” (Part 2 will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, in the Rosedale Room, 785 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains. Learn from other individuals living with Alzheimer’s on what to expect, how to build a care team and planning for the future.
