History Presentations Salute America 250

Embracing the celebration of America 250, presentations continue to be offered that focus on the history of Freedomland U.S.A., the 1960-1964 American history theme park in the Bronx on the site now occupied by Co-op City. In addition to five unique Freedomland presentations, new history programs place the spotlights on the northeast Bronx and colonial Westchester County during the American Revolution.

Freedomland presentations include:

The history of the park from conception to bankruptcy.

Connections to Disney, Hollywood, Broadway and television.

The character actors and more than 150 celebrity singers, musicians, comedians and other entertainers.

Rare photos from an award-winning photojournalist and showing a television pilot hosted by Sonny Fox of “Wonderama.”

The landscaping of the park grounds that partnered the Disney landscapers with local nurseries.

All presentations feature a memorabilia display. Each attendee receives an actual token deposited in the Freedomland turnstiles.

Since 2018, Freedomland presentations have been featured at libraries, historical societies and sites, religious organizations and civic groups, senior centers and assisted living facilities, high schools and other venues. Among these venues are AARP chapters, St. Paul's Church National Historic Site (Mount Vernon), the Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum, East Bronx History Forum and Kingsbridge Historical Society.

New Presentations

“Revolutionary Westchester: History Hidden In Plain Sight” reveals many of the hidden sites, monuments and plaques commemorating the American Revolution from the northern part of the county to the southern portion that became The Bronx.

“The Northeast Bronx: From Retreating Glaciers To Co-op City” provides an historic look at the boulders left behind by the glaciers, the marshland that was home of the Lenape, Dutch and English, the lost airport, the Village of Baychester and summer cabins, the Freedomland U.S.A. American history theme park, and today’s housing and shopping center.
