Voltage Reductions Expand To More Westchester Towns As Heat Dome Related Problems Persist For Second Day

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — Con Edison is asking customers in more communities in Westchester County to conserve energy while company crews race to repair equipment.

Con Edison has reduced voltage by 8 percent in the areas as a precaution to protect equipment and maintain service as repairs are completed, according to the utility.

The equipment problems in these areas have no effect on the rest of the Con Edison system, officials said.

The area affected by the voltage reduction now includes parts or all of White Plains, Scarsdale, Rye, Eastchester and Harrison, along with some customers in the northeast Bronx and on City Island.

The voltage reduction could affect as many as 36,700 customers.

Con Edison has asked customers in these areas not to use energy-intensive appliances such as washers, dryers, and microwaves until crews complete repairs. The company also asks customers to limit unnecessary use of air conditioning. For example, those who have two air conditioners, are asked use only one and set it to the highest comfortable temperature.

The company also requests that customers refrain from charging electric vehicles until repairs are made.

The utility said it is in communication with Westchester County Emergency Management.
