NCADD Talks About Saving Lives at National Night Out in White Plains

Hundreds from Throughout Westchester Meet with Businesses, White Plains Police, Fire & Public Safety on a Fun Filled Afternoon

On August 4, the city of White Plains held its annual National Night Out filled hundreds of families, vendors, city VIPs and many businesses and organizations handing out information as well as fun swag, food and candy. Kids accompanying their parents were able to have fun in a bouncy castle and playing games offered by the White Plains Police and Fire. One organization, the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) who are based right here in White Plains on Bryant Avenue, spoke to visitors at their table in depth of life saving measures on overdose, a much too common problem in society today.

"We are all about saving lives during these tough times with so many people dealing with their addiction," said long-time Program Coordinator Dennis Andrews. "Additionally, we brought Narcan samples so if people who come up to us have a current problem or knows someone who does, this will help them immediately."

Mr. Andrews educates a visitor about the importance and usage of Narcan.

The afternoon also included entertainment by the White Plains Youth Bureau Drum Corps, the Peruvian American Culture Center, and the Police Cadet Graduation Ceremony, as well as remarks by Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins, White Plains Mayor Justin C. Brasch and White Plains Public Safety Commissioner Wade Hardy.
