Available History Presentations For Westchester Venues During 2027

More than 65 venues in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut already have hosted engaging local history programs that feature five separate presentations about the 1960s American history theme park Freedomland U.S.A., the history of the northeast section of The Bronx, American Revolution sites in colonial Westchester County and the treason of West Point. Many venues, including Westchester County locations, have hosted multiple programs.

For 2027, presentations again will be offered at public and private locations. The Freedomland programs include an extensive park memorabilia display. Libraries, historical societies/museums/sites along with civic, community and religious organizations, plus high schools and senior communities, have hosted these presentations since 2018.

Five Different Freedomland Presentations

Five programs focus on the theme park that existed in The Bronx from 1960 until 1964 on the site now occupied by Co-op City.

"Freedomland U.S.A.: The Definitive History" based on the book of the same name that provides a comprehensive focus on the park's history from conception to closing.

"Freedomland U.S.A.: More Definitive History" based on the book of the same name that discusses the ongoing research that includes unique winter photos of the park with new discoveries that always change the narrative about the park's history.

"Freedomland's Long Lost Photos And Film" offers the only known color photos of Freedomland's Preview Day from photojournalist and park photographer Arthur Pomerantz. The presentation includes the viewing of "Adventures In Freedomland," a never-broadcast television pilot episode hosted by Sonny Fox of "Wonderama."

"Freedomland's Celebrity Entertainers" begins with the history of the park before focusing on the many character actors and celebrity entertainers.

"The Landscaping Of Freedomland" offers the story about the plantings and other decorative features provided by the same company that landscaped Disneyland. The New York Botanical Garden and local nurseries from Long Island, Westchester County and New Jersey were involved with the park's land cover. This program has proved popular with garden clubs.

Other History Pr0grams

"The Northeast Bronx: From Retreating Glaciers To Co-op City" provides an historic look at the boulders left behind by the glaciers, the marshland that was home of the Lenape, Dutch and English, the lost airport, the Village of Baychester and summer cabins, the Freedomland U.S.A. American history theme park, and today's housing and shopping center.

"Revolutionary Westchester: History Hidden In Plain Sight" reveals many of the hidden sites, monuments and plaques commemorating the American Revolution from the northern part of the county to the southern portion that became The Bronx.

"Revolutionary Westchester: More History Hidden In Plain Sight" reveals additional hidden sites, monuments and plaques commemorating the American Revolution from the northern part of the county to the southern portion that became The Bronx.

"Treason Of The Blackest Dye — Sites Associated With The General Benedict Arnold-Major John Andre Affair" provides details about the treasonous surrender of West Point to the British, introduces others involved in the events of September-October 1780 and features photos of many historic sites in Westchester and Rockland counties plus related sites in Manhattan, Canada and the UK.
