WHITE PLAINS, NY — A Long Island man will be facing charges in Westchester County for possessing disturbing child sex abuse material.
Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced that 72-year-old Richard Heumann, of New Hyde Park, was arraigned on Tuesday in Westchester County Court for 30 felony counts of possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child.
"We will never turn a blind eye to the despicable actions of individuals who seek out, possess, or distribute child sexual abuse material," Cacace said. "The defendant allegedly possessed a cache of illegal content, which not only contributed to the continued abuse and exploitation of real children, but compounded the devastating harm suffered by these young victims. This indictment underscores my office's steadfast commitment to combatting this type of online depravity and ensuring those who exploit the vulnerable face the wrath of our criminal justice system."
On Feb. 12, 2025, Heumann, while in White Plains, possessed 30 separate digital files depicting children under the age of 16 engaging in sexual conduct, according to charging documents.
The White Plains Police Department arrested Heumann at his Nassau County home on Dec. 17, following an investigation.
He pleaded not guilty and was released on his own recognizance, as the charge is not bail-eligible under state law, according to the DA's office. Heumann is due back in court on Nov. 17.
The case is being prosecuted by Child Sex Abuse Material Bureau Chief Laura Forbes.
