WHITE PLAINS, NY — The Construction Industry Council of Westchester & Hudson Valley, Inc. has launched a new campaign encouraging young adults to consider careers in the skilled construction trades.
The campaign was introduced last month at Elizabeth Seton Young Adult Center construction site on North Street in White Plains. It aims to highlight career opportunities in construction, including hands-on training, apprenticeships, career advancement and the ability to earn while learning.
The initiative also seeks to challenge the idea that a four-year college degree is the only path to a successful career.
"Today's young people have more career choices than ever, and we want them to understand that the skilled trades should be among those choices," said John Cooney Jr., executive director of the Construction Industry Council.
The campaign is part of a regional workforce development effort by the Construction Industry Council and the Building Contractors Association of Westchester & The Mid-Hudson Region. The organizations represent an industry that includes more than 20 skilled trades and offers opportunities in a wide range of construction specialties.
Officials also hope to expand opportunities for women and other groups historically underrepresented in the trades.
With an emphasis on apprenticeships and hands-on experience, the campaign seeks to introduce a new generation to careers that can offer valuable skills, advancement and long-term employment opportunities.
The Construction Industry Council represents more than 600 construction-related businesses throughout the region. For more information: https://cicbca.org/
