Westchester Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk

Please join us as walker, volunteer, and/or donor on Sunday, April 22nd for the 3rd Annual Westchester Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk at Rye Town Park in Rye.

The walk was created in memory of Gigi Shanes-Hernandez, who died of pancreatic cancer at 52 years young on April 9, 2009. A life long Rye resident, Gigi dedicated her adult life to caring and advocating for children and adults with disabilities in Westchester County and Greenwich, CT.

The seaside walk along Long Island Sound is a fundraiser for pancreatic cancer research, advocacy, and awareness. Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers, in fact 75% of all those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer pass away within the first year of diagnosis. Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States--and has the highest mortality rate of all the major cancers. More than 42,000 individuals will be diagnosed and nearly as many will die from it this year alone.

All donations will go to the Lustgarten Foundation, the country’s largest private supporter of pancreatic cancer research, where 100% of every donation goes directly to research. Lustgarten Foundation Events serve as a wonderful celebration of the progress being made in the fight against this disease, and your important participation provides hope for the future.
