Coronavirus Impact Continues To Lessen In Westchester

The county executive gave his daily update on the new coronavirus outbreak.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — Westchester County continues to have a reduction in the impact the new coronavirus is having. That was the good news presented by County Executive George Latimer at his daily news conference Wednesday.

As of Wednesday, there are 34,385 confirmed cases of the virus in the county. Seventeen more people tested positive yesterday, as there were more than 3,000 people tested.

Latimer said that small numbers of positive tests as opposed to the much larger number of tests administered was a "great sign of advanced effort."

The number of cases of active infection is now below 700, he said, and there are about 100 people still hospitalized with COVID-19-related illnesses.

Latimer said there were just two fatalities since Tuesday. The number of virus-related deaths is a little more than 1,400 since the outbreak began.

The lessening impact of the virus at this stage of the game "encourages us to continue to move slowly but regularly in the reopening of society," he said.
